From a young age, my mum has always stressed on the importance of sunblock. Growing up in a tropical country meant that we are exposed to the sun more, especially if we are always out and about. I’ve never been a fan of sunblock because of the tacky feeling it leaves. And I really did not like the sheen and sliminess that comes with sweat during humid days (which is 365 out of 365 days). But now, I have come to appreciate it for what it does. My current sunblock of choice is the Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream SPF 50 Triple Care.
I’ve not always had a good relationship with sunblock. It was always something I flatly refused to put on even on the sunniest of days. It was not until my Australian Work and Holiday stint that I had a proper loving relationship with my sunblock. It has kept my skin safe from the harsh UV rays of the Australian sun. During my first week in Australia, I became 2 shades darker because I spent the entire day out walking and looking for work. I would have been fine (likely not) if I got tanned all over but my tan followed the shape of my shirt, shorts and flip flops. The flip flop parts were the worst because my feet were darker except for the two fair lines. Ever since then, I made sure to always, ALWAYS slap on some sunblock before going out.
My favourite sunblock has always been from Innisfree. I will review my number 1 favourite once I get it again, but for now, here is my review on the Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream SPF 50 Triple Care.
So, what is the Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream SPF 50 Triple Care?
According to Innisfree, it is a “3-in-1 sun cream that comes with anti-wrinkle, whitening and UV protection functions for a perfect sun care”. It contains green tea extract and sunflower oil to keep skin healthy and protect against harsh UV rays. With SPF50, this UV cream is ideal for outdoor activities thanks to the long-lasting waterproof formula that will withstand sweat and sebum.
My thoughts about it
Now, I have good things and not so good things to say about it. Let’s start with the good parts. It is long-lasting for sure and does its job in protecting your skin from the sun very well indeed. I find the scent to be pleasant, but some might be put off by it as it is pretty strong (then again I have a rather sensitive nose). It has a creamy texture that glides on easily and provides a good coverage on your face. It doesn’t clog your pores like other sunblock.
Now, the not so good side… this cream leaves a white cast on your face after application. No, you won’t look like a ghost unless you finished the entire tube in one go.
The white cast can be good or bad depending on how you apply the product. As you spread and massage it over your face, it will slowly match your skin tone. Hence, I will advise to apply 5 dots on your face:- one for your forehead, chin, nose, left and right cheek. This should be enough to cover your entire face without leaving a thick white cast.
I would say that this product is akin to a CC cream. It smoothens and brightens up your skin, prepping it for a great make-up base. It comes out slightly white at first but will gradually match your skin tone as you pat it on. One other thing that I do not like about it is, it leaves a layer on my skin which I find very annoying, especially on very humid days. And if I wipe my face with a tissue, the sunblock comes off with my sweat. To avoid that, I just dab my face instead of wiping my sweat off.
In summary
The SPF50 offers a high level of protection against the harsh UV rays of the sun. The long-lasting waterproof formula keeps the product on your face until you’re ready to take it off. The white cast is not a huge problem as long as you use just the right amount. It also makes for a great primer as it not only smoothens your skin but brightens it as well.
I applied it religiously every single day and it has kept my skin fair and sunspot free despite being out in the sun most of the time. Though I would have liked it better if it was slightly more lightweight, I cannot fault this product for being great at what it does. If I am unable to get my hands on my favourite sunblock, I will for sure repurchase this one.
