Nissin UFO Noodles

I am pretty sure that many of you have had instant noodles at some point in your life. I’ve always been tempted to buy the UFO Noodles by Nissin every time I head into the instant noodles aisle at the supermarket but was always put off by the price (as it is imported from Japan, it tends to be on the pricier side here). However, there is a cheaper alternative – same noodles but manufactured in a different country.

But I, I want the legit stuff. So! I bought a couple to take home with me. Last week, my hunger pangs reminded me of the Nissin UFO Noodles sitting nicely in my pantry cupboard.

What are UFO Noodles? Are they edible?

Of course they are! Made in Japan by Japan’s ultra-famous instant noodle company, Nissin, this savoury instant noodles are sold in a round or a squarish bowl. The cooked noodles along with the rehydrated vegetables are served tossed in a special Japanese noodle sauce (akin to the Worcestershire sauce) with garnishes on top.

I am PLEASANTLY SURPRISED with the noodles! From unwrapping it, to “cooking it” and devouring it.

As it is an instant Yakisoba (fried soba), it is meant to be a dry noodle dish. Hence, the amazing design of this product.  I don’t know if there are other non-Japanese instant noodles with such an amazing product design. The ones I had needed draining in a separate colander before I could toss it with the sauce.

Now, let me take you through preparing the noodles that has one of the most innovative instant noodles product design ever!

For ease of use, the steps have been labelled accordingly.

Preparation steps:

1: Tear off the plastic that encloses the bowl.

2: Peel the lid carefully from the bottom tab (labelled as 1) up until mid-way where the dotted lines (labelled as 2) are.

3: Pour hot water into the bowl up until the marked line as indicated on the inside of the bowl. Then close the lid and secure it with a plate.

4: Wait for 3 minutes for your UFO Noodles. Be patient.

5: The fun and amazing part! Peel off the black tab (labelled as 3) to reveal the fantastic and innovative Turbo Drain.

6: Drain all the water away without losing any noodles! (This part deserves a TA-DAAAAAAAA)

7: Tear away the entire lid, pour the sauce onto the noodles and mix well.

8: Add the garnishes on top and if you want it fancy, throw on a fried egg or two.

AND YOU’RE ALL SET TO SLURP THEM NOODLES UP.

Enjoy!
