My Decade in Review

Remember how viral the Instagram 10 year challenge was in early 2019? Now that we have rung in not only a new year, but also a new decade, it is a good time to reflect on what I have achieved in the past 10 years and to slowly map out the next 10. This is my decade in review for me to look back on.

The past 10 years proved to be a challenging decade for me, just as it will be for anyone going through their twenties. It is the stage where one tries to figure out their future, beginning with their studies. From there, it will be career, relationships, friendships, understanding oneself and the whole shebang.

In the past decade, I:
  • Decided to switch courses after realising I did not like the course I was taking.
  • Ventured abroad by myself to further my studies.
  • Graduated with flying colours (thankfully!).
  • Gave up the obese life and lost more than half of my physical self (this was the hardest but the most satisfying achievement to date).
  • Fell in love and learnt a lot about it.
  • Worked a gruelling corporate job which took multi-tasking to a whole new level.
  • Travelled to Singapore and China for the first time in 2014.
  • Made it a point to travel to Melbourne once a year and if I did not make it, I’d travel twice the following year (that’s how much I love the place).
  • Had an on and off relationship with baking (we’re still seeing each other from time to time).
  • Attended my first Ted Talk.
  • Decided to fix my crooked teeth once and for all (took 3 years instead of the initial 1.5 years – how stubborn my teeth were).
  • Tried a bob cut for the first time (never again).
  • Voted for a change and got it.
  • Fought hard and won big.
  • Began the journey of self-acceptance and understanding that weight is just a number (still working on this).
  • Left home, a stable job and my loved ones to go on a solo adventure to the land down under (the best time of my life!).
  • Pushed myself (real hard) out of my own comfort zone and tried out new industries (which I am so thankful for the experiences and people that I have met along the way).
  • Visited Tokyo again after 15 years!
  • Bleached my own hair (loved the results).
  • Tested different hair colours (also loved the results).

So, here’s to another great year and another greater decade! In 10 years time, I hope to do another decade in review to self-reflect again.

Always remember that you can achieve just about anything so as long as you put your mind to it.

Happy New Year guys!
