Ideas to Stay Occupied During Lockdown

Around the world, many are staying home to keep safe due to Covid-19. Many countries have imposed strict laws to restrict people’s movements in order to minimise the spread of the virus. As we all try to settle into the “new norm”, we look for ways to incorporate the lifestyle that we’re so used to to make the best out of the current situation. Let’s look at some ways to stay occupied during the lockdown.

Pick up a new skill

With some extra time on your hands, you can finally start learning that new language, pick up baking or cooking, learn a new soft skill (conducted via online classes) or a hard skill (who knows when is the next time a plumber can come over).

Personally, I’m taking this time to slowly catch up on a couple of languages that I pressed the pause button on. I’ve always enjoyed learning a new language cause it will enable me to easily communicate when travelling and even make new friends!

It has also proven to be a great advantage when I was living abroad. I was able to secure work easier and make friends from other countries during my Australian work and holiday. So never underestimate the power of learning a new language.

Catch up on your favourite shows

Netflix has been a good friend of mine as of late. It’s great to be able to enjoy movie nights with my family now that I’m at home most of the time. Otherwise, it’s always me running around like a headless chicken most days when I am at work or have errands to run.

I got hook on a 40 episodes Chinese drama that I proudly (or embarrassingly) finished in 3 days. It’s titled ‘Find Yourself’ and tells the love story between an older successful woman and her much younger colleague. There were a number of cringe-worthy scenes but it added that flavour required to make this drama worth watching!

Some TLC

Now that I’m spending more time at home, I can also use the time to focus on myself. Before, I was always zipping around and end up feeling exhausted to maintain a proper skincare routine. I do my best to incorporate like a mask or two a week but there’d be weeks where I either completely forgot or can’t be bothered.

Now that I have some extra time for myself, I’ve started to incorporate products that requires time, such as clay and sheet masks. I used to find clay mask a chore because of the steps required. Now, it takes part at least twice in my night routine.

It’s a blessing that I have the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask which I’d always use after a clay mask!

It doesn’t only have to be skincare, you can take the time to meditate or read a book. Do something that you enjoy, for yourself.

Pick a new hobby

Read a book, tend to your garden, grow some herbs or vegetables, play a game. Whatever you have been putting off, this is the right time to pick it up!

While clearing my room, I found a stack of forgotten books that I bought many years back. Some were still sealed! I was so happy when I found those books! Out of the 15 books I found, 10 of them were the works of authors that I have loved reading over the years. I am so so glad I found them!

Ah, safe to say, a new hobby I picked up recently is cleaning and organising, not sure if it is here to stay though haha.

Stay active

Last, but definitely not least. This is the most crucial thing to keep up, especially so during this period of time.

It can be hard to maintain a proper workout routine when you can’t hit the gym or go to the park for a jog. But there are TONS of workout available on YouTube that you can do in the comforts of your own home. You can find just about any workout. From something simple as a walking workout (there is such a thing) to some advanced HIIT.

Since I can’t go the gym no more, and I don’t plan to for a while even after the restricted movement lifts, I’m sticking to exercising at home! I’ve done it before during my weight loss journey so it wasn’t hard to reintroduce it back into my lifestyle.

Take baby steps until you’re able to slowly increase the intensity of the workout. That way you will not be discouraged if you can’t keep up with the workout.

Stay safe everyone! We can all get through this step by step!
